The Trigg County and Christian County boys’ soccer teams were knotted at 1-1 after one half Tuesday night in Cadiz, but a second-half surge sent the Wildcats to a 5-1 victory. After suffering their first loss of the season Thursday at Webster County, Trigg County improves to 4-1, while the Colonels drop their second-straight to even their record at 4-4.
Trigg’s Elijah Gaines opened the scoring just seven minutes into the contest off an assist from Will Jolly. However, just over ten minutes later the Colonels’ Marcus Crockam was on hand to score from close range after Benito Rubio saw his header off a corner kick bounce off the post.
The Wildcats found another gear after the halftime break, with Gaines scoring twice eight minutes apart off assists from Daniel Jimenez and Jolly. With sixteen minutes to play, Jolly set up Gaines again for a 4-1 Wildcats’ lead. Jolly tacked on an unassisted goal inside the last ten minutes for the final score.
Christian County’s leading scorer Emmanuel Ixcol was unavailable due to injury, as was Wildcats’ starting goalkeeper Matthew Smith. Peyton Phillips made one save to collect the win in his first appearance as Trigg’s starting keeper.
Up next for the Wildcats is a home match with Muhlenberg County (1-5) on Thursday. The Colonels will be in the visitor’s dugout at the Stadium of Champions on Thursday, as they face off with Hopkinsville.
