For the first part of the match Thursday night it looked like Apollo was in for all it could handle as the E-Gals visited Tiger Gym to take on the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers. However, the E-Gals got things going in the second and third sets and swept Hopkinsville in an inter-regional volleyball match.
In the opening set, the two teams battled back and forth before Apollo finally won the set 25-23. Apollo’s biggest lead in the set was four points, while Hopkinsville’s biggest lead was two. The Lady Tigers got an especially strong opening set from Karalyn Beymer, who unofficially had seven kills in the opening set. Hopkinsville also got solid play also from Sarah Cavanah, and Hope Pace.
In the second set, Apollo opened with a 10-1 run and never looked back. The E-Gals would win the set 25-16. Hopkinsville struggled at times with their communication on the court allowing the Apollo to maintain the early margin in the set.
The third set was a battle early. Hopkinsville jumped out to a 3-1 lead, but Apollo then outscored the Lady Tigers 18-7 to take a 19-10 lead and control of the set. Apollo then cruised on out for the 25-16 win to complete the 3-0 match sweep.
The loss drops Hopkinsville to 1-7, while Apollo improves to 9-3.
Hopkinsville won the JV contest, sweeping Apollo 21-19 and 21-17.
