The YSE Super Seven for boys’ soccer remains unchanged for this week, but the gap between the top five teams in the Second Region appears to be narrowing.

1) Henderson County (5-0-1, Maher No. 8) – The Colonels have reeled off five straight wins since a season-opening tie against Owensboro. Two of the wins are against teams ranked in the Maher top 30. Sam Cloutier had a pair of goals and three assists in the Colonels’ 7-3 win over Webster County Monday.

2) Hopkinsville (4-1, Maher No. 21) – The Tigers bounced back from a loss to Daviess County with a 2-0 win at Madisonville Tuesday. Hoptown actually led Daviess County 2-0. The Panthers are ranked in the Maher top 15. Hoptown has a pair of road games upcoming with Greenwood and South Warren who are a combined 9-2-1.

3) University Heights Academy (5-1, Maher No. 101) – The Blazers saw their five-game winning streak end in the penalty kick round to Murray in the All-A Classic sectional. The Blazer defense has allowed three goals in six games. After a week of outdoor school, UHA will see their schedule toughen up, starting with No. 5 Webster County Sept. 6.

4) Madisonville (5-1-1, Maher No. 63) – The Maroons suffered their first loss of the season Tuesday against Hoptown. Over the weekend, they beat Male – ranked No. 36 by the Maher computer – in Louisville. This weekend is a measuring stick for Madisonville as they will play No. 23 Oldham County, No. 53 John Hardin, and No. 65 Lexington Christian in the Purples Classic in Bowling Green.

5) Webster County (2-3, Maher No. 104) – The Trojans have beaten the teams they should have (Lyon, Caldwell, and Ballard Memorial) and lost to teams ahead of them in the YSE Super Seven (Hopkinsville, Madisonville, and Henderson County). Their next two matches are against teams also in the YSE Super Seven – Trigg County and UHA.

6) Trigg County (3-0, Maher No. 136) – Like Webster County, the Wildcats have disposed of three teams ranked below them in the Maher Computer Rankings (Fort Campbell, Lyon County, Hopkins Central). Their schedule gets tougher as they play a pair of teams in the YSE Super Seven – Webster County and Christian County.

7) Christian County (4-2, Maher No. 144) – The Colonels are off to their best start since 2013. During their current three-game winning streak, the Colonel defense has allowed just one goal. They will have matches with Trigg County and Hopkinsville ahead of the Boots and Butts Classic Sept. 8.
