Hopkinsville evened their season record at 1-1 and gave Jessica Shepherd her first win as Lady Tiger volleyball coach Monday. Hoptown beat Fort Campbell in straight sets 25-14, 25-15, 25-11.
In each of the first two sets, Hoptown jumped out to a quick lead. They led 12-3 in the first set and 7-0 in the second set. Each time, Fort Campbell mounted a slight rally to draw close. The Lady Falcons got to within six points in the first set before Hoptown scored 11 of the next 16 points.
In the second set, Fort Campbell trailed by seven points but got to within 9-8. Hoptown then responded with a 10-3 run to take control of the set.
The third set was tied 4-4 before Hope Pace served 10 straight points, including four aces, to open up a 14-4 lead. The Lady Falcons would get no closer than nine points the rest of the way.
Pace had eight aces and five kills in the match, while Karalyn Beymer added seven kills. Sarah Cavanah had 16 assists, and Savannah Peck had seven assists and six aces.
For the match, Hoptown had 26 aces but had nine service errors.
Fort Campbell got two aces from Emma Syester and three kills from Jahlyn Mincey.
The win was Hoptown’s seventh straight against Fort Campbell and the first with Head Coach Jessica Shepherd at the controls.
Hopkinsville (1-1) will play at University Heights Thursday in a rematch of the 2017 Eighth District championship match.
Fort Campbell (0-5) will play Crittenden County Tuesday in the semifinals of the Second Region All-A Classic in Marion.
