On a day when LPGA Tour history was made, Princeton’s Emma Talley made some personal history with third place tie at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic in Oneida, Wisconsin. She also shot a personal best score of 20-under as part of her best finish in an LPGA Tour event.
Talley was the model of consistency in the final round. She played bogey-free golf and had three birdies in addition to an eagle on the par-5 15th hole. She hit 16 of 18 greens in regulation in the final round and had 29 putts, which was below her season average for the third time in four days.
Talley’s final round of 67 saw her tie with Anna Nordqvist and Amy Yang for third place and score the highest finish among American golfers at the event. She earned a career-high $105,768 for her weekend in Wisconsin and jumped from 54th to 43rd on the LPGA money list. Talley has earned $286,109 in her rookie year.
Despite the career-best score, Talley finished 11 shots behind Korea’s Sei Young Kim, who set an LPGA record of 31-under par for her four rounds, breaking the old mark of 27-under set by Annika Sorenstam.
Talley will continue her tour of the Midwest this week at the Marathon Classic in Sylvania, Ohio before heading to Europe for the Scottish Open and British Open.
