Trigg County has had a history-making season on the softball diamond in 2018, but they aren’t finished writing their story just yet.

The Lady Wildcats (21-12) open play in the Fifth District Softball Tournament at Marion’s City Park as the No. 1 seed. Trigg will play four-seed Livingston Central at 5:30.

The 21 wins by Trigg County are a program record, and the No. 1 seed is a program first. The Lady Wildcats won six of their last eight games to end the regular season, including a 10-0 win over Livingston on May 14.

Four years ago, Livingston Central won the Fifth District title and lost in the region title game to Madisonville on a walk-off home run. However, the Lady Cardinals (2-15) enter the 2018 postseason having dropped 11 of their last 12 games.

The other semifinal could be one of the best semifinal matchups in the Second Region. Crittenden County (19-7) and defending district champion Lyon County (17-13) meet at 7pm.

The teams met three times during the regular season with Crittenden County winning twice. One of those wins was an 11-1 conquest in the All-A Classic region tournament. Lyon won their April 19 game 8-7, while the Lady Rockets returned the favor 5-2 on April 27.

Lyon County followed a four-game winning streak with a three-game losing streak to end the season. Crittenden County enters the postseason having won five of six games.

Monday’s winners will advance to Tuesday’s championship game at 6pm and both will advance to next week’s Second Region Tournament at Madisonville.
