If the Christian County Lady Colonels can go on the road Thursday and knock off the defending state champions, it would end two very long streaks. It has been a while since the Madisonville Lady Maroons have been beaten by a 2nd Region team, and even longer since Christian County got the upper hand on the Lady Maroons.
Just how long has it been since Christian County knocked off Madisonville on the softball diamond. If the Lady Colonels go to Madisonville and win Thursday afternoon, it would be six years to the day between the wins over the Lady Maroons.
The last time Christian County knocked off Madisonville was May 3, 2012. That game too was in Madisonville, and the Lady Colonles picked up the win by a score of 6-4.
Since that time, here is how it has gone:
2013 – Madisonville 7-3 (at Christian County)
2014 – Madisonville 6-5 (11 inn at Madisonville)
2015 – Madisonville 10-1 (at Christian County)
2016 – Madisonville 7-5 (2nd Region championship at Union County)
2017 – Madisonville 12-1 (2nd Region championship at Union County)
Thursday will mark the first time the two teams have played in the regular season since 2015. They are scheduled to play a return match a week from Thursday at Christian County.
Another streak will be on the line as well Thursday. The Lady Maroons have not lost a game to a 2nd Region opponent since March 20, 2014, when they lost to Union County.
Christian County enters the game ranked #3, while the Lady Maroons are #7.
Six years to the day, can it happen again ?
