With the wind gusting out of the northwest and keeping everything that was hit in the air in the park, the Caldwell County Lady Tigers did the little things to pick up their first win in pool play at the All A State tournament at Jack Fisher Park. The Lady Tigers used smart baserunning, timely sacrifices, and a strong pitching peformance from Katie Franklin to defeat Russellville 3-0.
Katie Franklin set down the first 12 Lady Panthers she faced, including ten by strikeout. She lost her bid for a perfect game when she hit the first batter in the top of the 5th inning. Russellville got their only hit on a two out single in the top of the 6th innings.
Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers finally broke through in the bottom of the 4th. Mashea Glover led off the inning with a single, and then stole second and third base. After Allie Felker got on base with a bunt single, Glover then scored when Russeville mishandled a ball hit by J’Amiee Burke to put the Lady Tigers up 1-0. Peyton Young then laid down a sacrifice to score Felker and put Caldwell ahead 2-0.
Caldwell County would add an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th inning. Mashea Glover led off the inning with a walk. She then stole second base and advanced to 3rd base on a sacrifice fly. Glover then scored on a sacrifice bunt from Allie Felker to make it 3-0.
Glover was 1-2 on the game with a pair of runs scored. Allie Felker was 1-2 with an RBI for Caldwell County.
Katie Franklin went the distance in the circle for the Lady Tigers, giving up only one hit while striking out 13.
