If we could rank Mother Nature in our first YSE “Super 7” 2nd Region softball poll we would. The weather was the big winner of the week as most of the teams had a hard time finding an opportunity to get on the field. These ratings could shift a good bit over the next couple of weeks, if the weather will just cut us a break.
– Madisonville (1-0) – Kaylee Tow is now playing in the SEC, but for the time being the Lady Maroons are still the defending state champs. Someone else could be in this slot as soon as next week. But, for now, someone needs to knock the queens from their thrones.
– Christian County (2-0) – Not only did the weather shorten the week last week, the Lady Colonels did too. Playing only six innings in blowout wins over UHA and Hoptown. Just wish we did not have to wait until May 3rd for their first showdown with Madisonville.
– Webster County (1-0) – While the top 2 in the region appear to be a bit ahead of the rest for the moment, the next five appear to be very close, which should make for some great competition on the field. Webster won a 4-2 battle with Caldwell County, which is enough to put them #3 for now.
– Union County (1-0) – Another 6th District team here. The Bravettes rallied in the bottom of the 7th to tie and then defeat Lyon County in the bottom of the 8th. That puts em #4 for now.
– Lyon County (1-1) – Some early season pitching struggles cost them a tough loss at Union County. This bunch is still a dangerous crew anytime they take to the field.
– Caldwell County (0-1) – Lost a tough battle on the road at Webster County. No shame in that one, cause that may happen to several teams before the season is over.
– Hopkins Central (1-0) – Lady Storm open the season blowing out Whitesville Trinity. We will get a better feel for them coming up, as they are scheduled to play Madisonville this week.
