Christian County takes over the top spot in this week’s YourSportsEdge.com girls’ basketball rankings thanks to strong wins over McCracken County and Grayson County. Webster County drops to number two, but the rest of the top six remain unchanged.
Christian County (7-1) – The Lady Colonels suffered their first loss of the season to Bullitt East but rebounded with three straight blowout wins against out-of-region (OOR) opposition. They should be tested this weekend against Calloway County and Dyersburg, TN.
Webster County (3-2) – The Lady Trojans have dropped two straight to two First Region contenders in Murray and Graves County. Webster County has upcoming region games with #6 Madisonville and #8 Livingston Central.
Henderson County (1-4) – Playing with their full lineup for the first time this season, Henderson County hammered Evansville Mater Dei. We will be able to get a good gauge on the Lady Colonels in the week ahead with games against McCracken County, Murray, and #4 Hopkinsville.
Hopkinsville (4-1) – The Lady Tigers are making a strong case to jump into the top three with easy wins over #12 Union County and #9 UHA. Their only loss came to Murray, who also beat #2 Webster County by a similar margin. Hoptown plays four games in the next five days.
Hopkins County Central (4-3) – The Lady Storm didn’t look good against the top two teams in the region, but stay ahead of Madisonville thanks to a four-point win over the Lady Maroons in Morton’s Gap. They can improve their position in a road game at #4 Hopkinsville Friday.
Madisonville (2-4) – The Lady Maroons struggled to beat #14 Dawson Springs (46-44) and lost to #5 Hopkins County Central by four points. A Friday game with #2 Webster County is their only one against region opposition until January.
Caldwell County (3-2) – After losing two straight games to start the season, the Lady Tigers have rebounded to win three games over teams situated around them in the rankings. Wins over #10 Crittenden County and #8 Livingston Central moved them up in the rankings.
Livingston Central (5-4) – The Lady Cardinals have won four of five games and appeared poised to make a move up the rankings until their hiccup at Caldwell County. A nice bounce back win over Paducah Tilghman keeps them at #8 this week.
University Heights (2-3) – The Lady Blazers have suddenly struggled to find the basket in losses to Calloway County and #4 Hopkinsville. They have a shot to stop their slide Friday when they host #7 Caldwell County.
Crittenden County (4-2) – With the exception of their season opener against #15 Fort Campbell, Crittenden’s four games against region opponents have been decided by single digits. Their only loss came to #7 Caldwell County. They can expect another close one Friday against #8 Livingston Central.
Lyon County (3-2) – The Lady Lyons have not scored 50 points in a game yet, but also have not given up more than 45 either. They are in the group that could be ranked anywhere from 7 to 11.
Union County (1-4) – The Bravettes can make a slight jump in the rankings when they travel to #11 Lyon County Friday. They are 0-2 against teams in the region.
Trigg County (2-5) – Trigg County’s inability to score consistently keep them from making a move in the rankings. They led #11 Lyon County by one point at halftime before a scoreless third quarter resulted in their fourth straight loss Tuesday. Upcoming games with #15 Fort Campbell and Hickman County should help them end their slide.
Dawson Springs (1-5) – A close loss to #6 Madisonville gives the Lady Panthers hope they can pick up some wins against region competition and move up the rankings. However, their next six games are against OOR teams.
Fort Campbell (0-7) – The Lady Falcons are winless but getting better. They have two games left before Christmas break against #13 Trigg County and #7 Caldwell County.
