Kentucky freshman wide receiver/kick returner Lynn Bowden Jr., was named to the Freshman All-Southeastern Conference Team as a return specialist it was announced by the league on Thursday. There was a four-way tie for the honor as Bowden shares it with Alabama’s Henry Ruggs III, Missouri’s Larry Rountree III and Arkansas’ De’Vion Warren.
Bowden, a native of Youngstown, Ohio, was a versatile performer this season, returning kickoffs, playing wide receiver and serving in the feature-back role in the Wildcat formation. He caught 15 passes for 210 yards, averaging 14 yards per reception. As UK’s primary kickoff returner, he averaged 23.1 yards return. In the Wildcat, he rushed 12 times for 37 yards while completing 3 of 4 passes for 92 yards.
Bowden was named SEC Freshman of the Week following the Missouri game when he totaled 128 all-purpose yards in the win over the Tigers. He had a career-high 192 all-purpose yards in the win at Vanderbilt, including a 93-yard kickoff return that was UK’s longest runback since 2009.
