Heritage Christian Academy sloshed and slugged their way through three quarters against Christian Community School before catching fire in the final quarter for a 66-63 win Monday night at Warrior Gym.
HCA trailed 49-37 with six minutes left and was down 54-49 with 3:44 showing on the clock before going on a 12-1 run to take control.
The Warriors got a huge night from Dalton Folz, who finished with 27 points and 15 rebounds. He also hit 8-of-12 at the free throw line. Gavin Fowler, who struggled from the field while trying to overcome foul trouble in the first half, exploded for 10 points in the final three minutes to help spark the Warrior comeback. Fowler finished with 21 points and five assists.
Josh Jones joined them in double figures with 13 points and five rebounds.
After shooting just 32-percent from the field and finding themselves down 33-23 at halftime, HCA shot 48-percent in the second half and outscored the Colts 31-20 in the fourth quarter. The Warriors survived another shaky performance at the free throw line, hitting just 20-of-39 but hit 11-of-14 in the final 3:30.
Noah Stinson had 17 points to lead Christian Community, and Micah Jones threw in an 85-foot shot at the horn for the final three-point margin.
HCA (5-1) returns home Tuesday to host Christian Fellowship at Warrior Gym.
