Trigg County dropped three of their four regular season district volleyball matches but bounced back to sweep two matches and claim their third straight Fifth District title Thursday in Smithland.
Five of the seven sets Trigg County played in the two matches were decided by five points or less. The Lady Wildcats opened with a 26-24, 14-25, 27-25, 25-18 win over Crittenden County in the opener.
In the title match, Trigg County faced off against top seed Livingston Central who was unbeaten in district play in the regular season. However, the Lady Wildcats flipped the script and won in straight sets 25-22, 25-20, 25-22.
The district title is the third straight for Trigg County – a program first.
Trigg County will host the Second Region Tournament next week at Wildcat Gym. The Lady Wildcats (17-20) will join Caldwell County (25-9), Hopkinsville (20-17), and Henderson County (22-14) as district champions in the field.
District runners-up in the field are Livingston Central (19-11), Webster County (15-20), Madisonville (24-10), and University Heights (14-19).
