The Hancock County Hornets scored the final 20 points of the game to put an end to Todd County Central’s perfect start to the season Friday night in Hawesville. Hancock County got on the board late in the first quarter on a 27-yard touchdown pass and two point conversion to take an 8-0 lead.
Early in the second quarter, with a 4th and goal from the 10, Todd County’s Isaiah Fingers found the end zone, and with a two point conversion, the Rebels tied the game at 8-8. Hancock County struck back just over 4-minutes later on a 38-yard run to take the lead back at 14-8, which would also be the halftime score. Both teams had trouble holding on to the ball in the first half, combining for a total of six turnovers.
After an incident early in the 3rd quarter that saw a fracas on the Hancock County sideline, the turnover fest continued, but neither team was able to take advantage, and the quarter ended where it started at 14-8.
Hancock County took control of the game early in the 4th quarter on a 24-yard touchdown pass and two point conversion to extend the lead to 22-8. The Hornets sealed the win with a 61-yard touchdown with just under six minutes to go to push the lead out to 28-8.
With the loss, the Rebels fall to 4-1 on the season, and get ready to return home next week to host Caverna in a game that was postponed due to the remnants of Hurricane Harvey.
