Christian County (2-0) started quickly against visiting Rossview, with senior defensive back Corey Stubbs intercepting the Hawks quarterback on the second play of the game and returning it to put the Colonels up early.  Junior wide receiver Ellis Dunn ran in the 2 point conversion giving the Colonels an 8-0 lead.  The Colonels’ defense forced a fumble on the second Rossview drive, but a missed field goal by junior kicker Ben Settle kept the Colonels from extending the lead.

Rossview would get on the scoreboard later in the first quarter when they were able to punch it in from 2 yards after a long, sustained drive, cutting the score to 8-7.  Colonels’ senior Corey Trice appeared to have put the Colonels back in front with a 90 yard kick off return, but it was called back for a block in the back.

The second quarter began with the teams trading punts before Christian County began to move the ball on their second drive.  However, after a nice catch by senior wide receiver JaQuon Long, the Rossview defense was able to knock the ball loose and recover the fumble.  The ensuing Rossview drive would stall at midfield, and after going for it on 4th and 3, the Hawks turned it over on downs. The half ended with a Colonels’ hail mary attempt that was knocked away from Trice at the goal line.

The Colonels punted on their first possession after halftime, but the Hawks quarterback would fumble, with Colonels senior Kendarius Major falling on the ball.  It appeared the Hawks were going to force the Colonels to punt after senior quarterback Kolbe Langhi was sacked, but a Rossview personal foul penalty kept the Christian County drive alive.  A nice gain from Langhi to Long put the Colonels in scoring position, but a dropped pass and two stuffed runs forced the Colonels to bring out the field goal unit.  This time Settle’s kick was good, putting Christian County up 11-7.

After the score, Rossview would fumble the kickoff, and Colonels junior Trejon Wilson would recover around the Hawks’ 15 yard line.  Senior running back Diion Leavell would get into the end zone from 6 yards out, with the good PAT stretching the lead to 18-7.  As the third quarter ticked down, Rossview would convert a 4th and short from their own 30 yard line, followed by a pass interference penalty on the Colonels.

The fourth quarter began with another Colonels penalty, this time a face mask infraction, but another Hawks fumble, recovered by senior Artravious Gaither, would put a stop to the drive.  The Colonels quickly gave the ball back with their own fumble, with Langhi coughing it up at midfield.  A big sack by Gaither on 1st down would put the Hawks in a hole, eventually forcing them to punt.  Christian County was unable to move the ball and had to punt, but had the ball back after senior Trevian Wimbush intercepted the Hawks’ quarterback and returned it to the Rossview 45 yard line.  The Colonels began to milk the clock to run out the game before turning it over on downs with only 12 seconds remaining in the game.  Rossview would attempt a desperation heave downfield, but Trice would seal the win with an interception, returning it 70 yards to the Hawks’ 2 yard line as time expired.

The Colonels return to the field next Friday when they travel to Henderson County (1-1), 21-3 winners against Evansville North (Evansville) IN on Friday night.
