Barett Schultz, a former standout goalkeeper at Caldwell County, recently recorded his first win in the net at Concord University.
Schultz, a freshman, started and played all 90 minutes in the Mountain Lions’ 2-1 win over Wheeling (W.Va.) on Oct. 30.
Concord scored twice in the second half to pull out the victory.
Up 2-1, the Mountain Lions fended off the Cardinals late in the game. In the 85th minute, Wheeling’s Andres Carceres found himself inside the penalty area without a CU defender around, but Schultz made a diving save to his right to keep Concord ahead.
Concord is an NCAA Div. II school in Athens, W. Va., which competes in the Mountain East Conference.
The Mountain Lions men’s soccer team finished up a 3-12-2 season on Saturday with a 6-0 loss to Charleston (W.Va.).
Shultz saw action in four games this season, with two starts.
