Trigg County High School will induct their ninth athletic hall of fame class Saturday at the school cafeteria.

The 2019 Hall of Fame class consists of Tommy Johnson (track and field), Ted Sills (basketball and football), Danny Jones (track and field), James Guess (contributor), and the 1982 girls’ state champion cross country team.

Johnson is considered a pioneer for Trigg County track and field. He won both the non-classed WKC one-mile run and the Class 1A region one-mile run. His school-record mile time of 4:39 stood for 16 years.

Sills was one of the first standout dual athletes in Trigg County athletic history. He was the leading scorer on both the 1939 Wildcat football team and the 1939-40 basketball team, becoming the first Trigg player to earn all-region honors for basketball.

Jones was a three-time region champion for Trigg County in the pole vault. He finished third at state his sophomore year and was state runner-up twice. His senior season height of 12-feet, 9-inches stood as a school record for 14 years. He joins Al Baker and Sam Love as the only three Trigg County track and field athletes to compile three top-three finishes at the state meet in a single event in their careers.

Guess was the public address announcer for Wildcat football for 42 seasons from 1960-2001. He called over 200 games for 42 teams under nine different head coaches. Guess was also the leading scorer for the 1943-44 Wildcat basketball team and earned all-district honors.

The 1982 girls’ state champion cross country team lost to only one Kentucky school in invitationals during the season and won the state title by 14 points over Anderson County. Team members who ran at the state meet were Margaret Hendrix, Ginger Wallace, Kitty Davidson, Kristy Maggard, Micki Radford, Judy Lancaster, and Trudy Lancaster.

The hall of fame class will be recognized at halftime of Trigg County’s Friday football game with Union County.

The hall of fame induction ceremony will be Saturday at the Trigg County schools’ cafeteria. Doors open at 11am with the meal and program to follow at noon. Tickets will be sold at the door for $10.
