The season is starting to wind its way down, and it continues to appear that the rest of the 2nd Region is chasing the “Big 3.” Madisonville looked to have been the team with the best chance to crash that party, but the Lady Maroons take a tumble this week in the rankings. Should Caldwell, Henderson, and UHA all 3 make the 2nd Region tournament as district winners, two of them will have to be in the same bracket, with a possible semifinal meeting. The question still remains is there a team out there that can prevent one of the three from winning the region title.

– Caldwell County (12-6) – It was a tough trip to Richmond for the 2nd Region All A champs. Now everything turns towards th 7th District and 2nd Region tournaments. Between now and October 3, the Lady Tigers will be tested with matches against Madisonville, Apollo, Hopkinsville, and Henderson County.

– University Heights (10-2) – The loss in the All A regional title game does appear to have slowed the Lady Blazers down. A four match winning streak and a chance to build some big momentum headed into the post season. This is still a team that could well take it all come the 2nd Region tourney.

– Henderson County (14-6) – Let’s begin by saying Henderson County is Henderson County, and the Lady Colonels are still the defending region champs till someone rips the crown away. The winning streak is at 7 matches and they are starting to roll. October 3 is a big date to watch as Henderson will travel to Princeton.

– Crittenden County (8-11) – The Lady Rockets picked up a tough five set win at Webster County, the same Lady Trojans who took down Madisonville. They have also played Marshall County and Henderson County tough in straight set losses over the past couple of weeks. The best in the 5th District, can they climb any higher?

– Webster County (7-11) – The Lady Trojans are only 2-5 over their last seven matches. However, one of those two wins was a 3-1 takedown of Madisonville. The question for Webster County is whether or not they hit their ceiling with the win over the Lady Maroons.

– Madisonville (9-9) – The Lady Maroons may have picked the wrong time of the season to hit a bit of a skid. Losses to Henderson and Logan are not overly concerning. However, the loss to Webster and a tough battle with an improving Todd Central team, do give reason to pause.

– Hopkinsville (4-7) – You still get the feeling that this team could cause some problems late in the year. They just have not played much. A big stretch coming up with matches against Caldwell County, UHA, Madisonville, and two against Christian County.
