The UHA boys soccer team was shut out for the first time this season in a 5-0 loss to hosts Madisonville-North Hopkins on Saturday morning, with the Maroons’ Luke McElroy exploding for 4 goals and the Madisonville defense keeping the region’s most prolific attack under wraps.
The Blazers slip to 4-2 overall with a meeting with St. Mary in the 1st/2nd Region All “A” Classic on Monday. The Maroons claim their third-straight victory since their lone loss to Hopkinsville and improve to 6-1 on the season.
Luke McElroy got the Maroons started with a goal off an assist from Dalton Daves, before doubling the advantage with his second a short time later. Jeshua DeLeon found the back of the net with a volley off a corner kick from Daves and Madisonville held a comfortable 3-0 edge at the halftime break.
The Maroons controlled most of the second half and kept UHA on the defensive, while McElroy continued his assault on the Blazer goal. Logan Rainwater provided the assist on McElroy’s third, before Jack Dodds tapped the ball for McElroy to finish from close range on an indirect free kick in the Blazer 18-yard box.
