On Firday, the Christian County football team saw time run out with it on the doorstep of a possible winning score in a 20-14 loss to Kenwood, TN, before falling 7-2 in a low-scoring meeting with former Colonels’ quarterback J’Lin Powell and the Clarksville Northwest Vikings.
As a part of the TOA High School Football Jamboree at Austin Peay State University’s Fortera Stadium, the Colonels played a half against each team with the second quarter of each game played with a running clock.
Trailing Kenwood 14-0 with seconds left in the first quarter, the Colonels got on the board when L’Ray Coleman found the end-zone on a short run. With ten minutes to play, the Knights once again stretched the lead to two scores, but the Colonels came right back on a long touchdown catch by Cam Coleman. With time running out, Christian County drove to the Kenwood goal line, but they didn’t get the chance to punch it in as time ran out with an injury to a Colonel lineman.
There were fewer fireworks in the second game, with Christian County taking a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Former Colonel J’Lin Powell connected with his receiver for a 35-yard strike to give the Knights a 4-point lead that would prove decisive.
The Colonels will kick off the regular season next Friday when they travel to Princeton to take on the Caldwell County Tigers.
