
The American Legion State Baseball Tournament begins Wednesday and will be played at Jim Boyd Field at Lee S. Jones Park in Eddyville.
The double-elimination tournament opens at 5:30 p.m. with Lyon County (11-5-1) facing Mayfield in the opening game. Oldham County takes on Ashland at around 8:00 Wednesday night.
Lyon County Post 68 is the defending state champion. With a win in its opener, Lyon will advance to face Owensboro at 11 a.m. Thursday.
The Oldham County-Ashland winner will face Shelbyville at 1:30 Thursday afternoon.
Loser’s bracket games are set for Thursday night.
Play continues on Friday, with the championship round scheduled for Saturday night.
Lyon went 4-0 in the 2018 American Legion state tourney in Ashland, beating Owensboro 9-8 in the championship game. Lyon advanced to the American Legion Southeast Regional Tournament in Asheboro, N.C., last season.
