Five members of the Hopkinsville Lady Tiger tennis team will be headed off next week to the state tennis tournament in Lexington. Hoptown has one entry in the singles event, with two pairs set to play in the doubles tournament.
In singles play, Riley Fort is making her second straight trip to the state tournament. Last year, she was matched up against Caldwell County’s Belle Englebright in the opening round. The pair had just met in the regional semifinals. Englebright came away with the 6-0, 6-0 win.
This year, Fort is matched up against Emily Kinsey, of Murray, in the opening round of play. The two seniors will match up Thursday morning at 1030 at the Top Seed Tennis Center. Should Fort advance, she would play again Thursday at 3pm.
In doubles play, the pairing of senior Skylar Ray and freshman Sophie Maddux will take to the courts at the Top Seed Tennis Center at 1030am Thursday. They will take on Ashland Blazer’s entry of Emma Johnson and Abby Meek.
Last year, Ray and Anna Maddux lost in the opening round to a duo from Whitley County. In the 2017 tourney, Ray, along with Riley Fort, won their opening match of doubles play, and then fell in the second round of the tournament to a duo from Assumption.
Also in doubles play, 8th graders Allie Fort and Ella Lester will be making their state tournament debuts. The duo will take on sophomores Taylor Carter and Abby Stamps, from Allen County-Scottsville, at 1:45pm, at Top Seed Tennis Center.
