A knee injury cost Antonio Abren his junior season on both the football field and wrestling mat.  Christian County football coach Steve Lovelace said that injury caused Abren to slip off the radar but not for long.  The Colonel linebacker signed to play football at Murray State University Wednesday, with Lovelace adding the Racers were getting ‘a steal.’

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound linebacker returned from injury to record 135 tackles, including 47 solo and seven for loss.  On the wrestling mat, Abren was the region runner-up and qualified for the state tournament.

Abren’s father Greg played for Lovelace when he was an assistant coach at Hopkinsville, where Antonio’s uncle Ricky also played before going on to a career at the University of Kentucky.

Antonio said he would likely start playing at defensive end for Murray State before moving to linebacker after adding some bulk.  He plans on entering a course of study in college to become an electrician.
