Lyon County scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for a 6-5 win over Muhlenberg County Thursday in Eddyville.
Hadlie Butler’s squeeze bunt scored Lauren Davis with the tying run in the final inning, and Sydney Melton was plunked in the helmet with the bases loaded to score the winning run.
Both teams scored three times in the first inning. Alyssa Brewer’s two-run double highlighted Muhlenberg County’s first inning, while Calista Collins added an RBI double for Lyon in the bottom half. Kaelyn Conger followed with a run-scoring double.
Collins have Lyon County a 4-3 lead in the third when her region-leading 12th home run cleared the center field fence.
Hannah Gossett tied the game in the fifth with an RBI double, and Courtney Hale’s single in the seventh gave Muhlenberg County (12-17) a 5-4 lead ahead of Lyon’s heroics in the home half.
In addition to using her noggin to score the game-winning run, Melton finished with two hits. Collins added a double to her round-tripper and contributed a pair of RBIs. Gracen Wynn also had two hits and a run knocked in.
Conger improved to 8-3 with the pitching win. She struck out seven and scattered nine hits.
Lyon County (19-10) plays at Livingston Central Monday.
