The Caldwell County Lady Tiger tennis team brought home some championship hardware on Saturday, winning the Kentucky High School Tennis Coaches Association Section I team championship.
Caldwell defeated McCracken County 3-2 in the semifinal round Saturday morning in Paducah.
The Lady Tigers swept the three singles matches. Belle Englebright defeated Maggie Smith 6-3, 6-0; Maddie Morgan downed Ashley Dalton 6-0, 6-2; and Chasie Phelps beat Madeline Yates 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles, McCracken’s Taylor Riddle and Katie Crabtree topped Shae Sharpe and Josie Shaffer 2-6, 6-1, 10-6. The other doubles match was a default.
The Lady Tigers next face Paducah Tilghman in the championship match. The team’s split four matches, but Caldwell won on the tiebreaker, which was percentage of games won.
In singles, Englebright knocked off Natalie Lansden 6-2, 6-1; Morgan fell to Anna West 6-3, 3-6, 10-4; and Phelps lost to Abby Brown 6-3, 6-7 ( 5-7), 10-7.
In doubles, Sharpe and Shaffer defeated Kate Criner and Meghan Gruber 7-5, 6-1.
In the boys sectional on Saturday, Caldwell tied for fourth with Tilghman.
