Caldwell County continues to have Dawson Springs’ number on the baseball diamond. The Tigers swept a pair of 7th District games from the Panthers on Tuesday, capturing 15-0 and 13-0 decisions at the VFW Ballpark in Princeton.
Caldwell has now won its last 32 games against Dawson and 42 of the last 43 meetings. Dawson’s last wwin in the series came on April 4, 2003, when the Panthers prevailed 5-3. The teams were originally scheduled to play Tuesday at Dawson Springs, with the Panthers visiting Caldwell this Thursday. However, with rain in the forecast for later in the week, the teams elected to go ahead and play both games Tuesday in Princeton.
Caldwell, now 10-8 overall and 3-2 in the district, needed just three innings to win the opener. The Tigers scored seven times in the second inning and five times in the third to put the game away. Bryar Riley was the winning pitcher for Caldwell. He went all three innings, allowing just two hits while striking out seven and walking one.
At the plate, Brian Owen was 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored while Easton Thompson was 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs batted in and two runs scored.
Gabe East went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, Cody Holub doubled twice while going 2-for-3 with an RBI, Levin East was 2-for-3 and drove in two while John Davis was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Ethan Huddleston and Dylan Dawson each singled for the Panthers.
In the second game, it was Blake Stallins who blanked Dawson Springs (2-13, 0-5) on two base hits. Stallins struck out 10 and did not issue a free pass as Caldwell won 13-0 in five innings. The Tigers, who were the “visiting” team in the second game, scored in each inning to extend their win streak against the Panthers.
Gabe East was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, two runs batted in and three runs scored. Oliver Parker went 2-for-2, drove in two and scored twice. Tate VanHooser was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Huddleston and Easton Maddox each singled for the Panthers.
Caldwell is now off until a Saturday afternoon game at Henderson County.
