The Christian County Lady Colonels picked up their third win in a row, and their 8th in their last nine games Tuesday evening. The Lady Colonels took control of their game with Apollo by scoring ten runs over the 3rd and 4th innings enroute to a 12-4 win over the E-Gals, with the game stopped in the bottom of the 6th inning due to lightning.
Christian County got things started early, using a single and two walks to set up a couple of runs, one on a sac fly, and the other on a passed ball in the top of the first inning, to go up 2-0. Apollo rallied to cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom half of the inning.
The Lady Colonels then seized firm control of the contest, scoring four runs in the top of the 3rd inning. Tyler Shemwell got things started by crushing a home run to left field. A couple of walks and a couple of singles later, Christian County’s lead was up to 6-1.
Christian County then blew the game open with six runs in the top of the 4th inning. Tyler Shemwell drove in a run with a double to get things started in the inning. The big blow came off the bat of Tenley Gilbert, who took one out of the park to left field for a three run shot. When the smoke cleared, the Lady Colonels had exploded the lead out to 12-1.
Apollo tried to rally with a run in the bottom of the inning and then two more in the bottom of the 5th, before the weather officially shut things down for the night.
Tyler Shemwell continued to be on a tear, going 2-3, with a double, a home run, two RBI’s, and three runs scored. Tenley Gilbert was 2-4, with a home run and five RBIs. Pickle Winker gave Apollo fits at the top of the order going 3-5. And, Macy Lancaster continued her hot streak, going 2-4.
In the circle, Hannah Sumner picked up the win, going 5 1/3, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits, striking out one, while walking two.
