Calloway County’s Jaelyn Phillips and Trigg County’s Hannah Colbert engaged in an old-fashioned pitcher’s duel Thursday in Murray with the Lady Lakers winning 2-0.
Phillips pitched a two-hitter and struck out nine while walking just two. Colbert countered with a six-hitter. She struck out eight but walked four.
Calloway struck first when Adison Hicks walked and came around to score on a single by Izzy Housden in the first inning. They added a run in the sixth when Paige Kramer and Ellie Jackson singled. Kramer scored on a passed ball for the final run of the game.
Trigg County got a second inning single from Rylee Hendricks and fourth inning single from Alyssa Southwood. The Lady Wildcats, playing their first game in a week, didn’t have a runner advance past second in the game.
Kramer had two hits for Calloway County (6-3), who improved to 8-2 all-time against Trigg County.
Trigg (6-9) will play in the Marshall County Slugfest Friday and Saturday at Mike Miller Park.
