
Things were looking good for Caldwell County when the Tigers put up three runs in the top of the first inning against Greenwood.
However, the bottom of the first inning was a miserable one for Caldwell. Greenwood sent 12 men to the plate and scored eight times. The Gators would go on to win the contest 10-3 Friday afternoon at the Warren County Invitational.
Caldwell pitching gave up just six base hits in the contest. But the Tigers walked four batters and hit five others.
Caldwell (4-6) managed just four hits in the contest — and they all came in the first inning.
Cody Holub doubled home two runs to put the Tigers up 2-0. Holub then scored on a single to right field by Easton Thompson to make it 3-0.
Gabe East and Brian Owen also singled for Caldwell.
But Greenwood (6-4) put together its big inning in the bottom of the frame and held the Tigers scoreless the rest of the way.
The Gators added single tallies in the second andsixth to make it 10-3.
Dell Henk pitched the first five innings for Greenwood, allowing three earned runs on four hits while striking out eight and walking none. Wesley Flowers did not give up a base hit over the final two innings.
Greenwood’s Lance Upright was the only player in the game with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 and scoring three times.
Caldwell is now 1-2 at the Warren County Invitational. The Tigers are next scheduled to face Anderson County at the Bowling Green event.
