Christian County overcame an early 3-2 deficit with a three-run third inning as the Lady Colonels picked up a 5-3 win Tuesday at Floyd Central (Ind.).
Hope Jones singled and scored on a double to right field by Reni Shemwell to open the third and tie the game. Jones later scored on a wild pitch to put Christian in front. Shemwell came in when Tenley Gilbert reached on an error to give the Lady Colonels’ their 5-3 advantage.
Meanwhile, Floyd Central manaaged just two base hits over the final five innings of the contest.
Hannah Sumner went the distance in the circle for Christian, allowing three earned runs on five base hits. She struck out six and walked one.
The Lady Colonels, now 9-1, grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the contest when Taylor Shenwell singled home a pair of runs with two outs in the top of the first inning.
Floyd Central countered with three runs in the home half of the frame, taking advantage of a hit batter and a walk to start the inning.
Christian managed just five hits in the contest, but that was enough to pick up the win over a good Floyd Central squad.
Floyd Central (5-4) is tied for 14th in the Indiana coaches poll. The Highlanders are ranked 2nd in the state by MaxPreps’ computer-generated rankings.
The Lady Colonels return to action on Thursday when they visit Lyon County.
