A five-run first inning helped carry No. 2-ranked McCracken County to a 10-5 victory at Lyon County in baseball action Thursday.
The Lyons (4-2) played the Mustangs even after that, but only get as close as 5-2 and 7-4.
Grant Godwin had a three-run home run during the top of the first inning and finished 2-for-4 with five runs batted in for McCracken. Grant Davis was 3-for-5 and drove in a pair of runs for the Mustangs, who are now 6-1.
Gabe Board slammed a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning for Lyon and went 2-for-4 with the two runs batted in. Jackson Shoulders was 3-for-4 while Gunnar Bingham was 2-for-4 with a double.
Ben Higdon, the second of three McCracken hurlers, was the winning pitcher. He gave up just one earned run on two hits while striking out three and walking two after coming in with one out in the third and going 3.2 innings.
Dylan Capello tossed the first two innings for Lyon and suffered the loss.
The Lyons will be in action again on Friday when they travel to Henderson County.
