Lady Colonels Overwhelm Lady Falcons in Season Opener

The defending 2nd Region softball champions officially kicked off the defense of their title in fine fashion Tuesday evening. The Christian County Lady Colonels scored 12 runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to a 15-0 three inning win over Fort Campbell in an 8th District matchup Tuesday evening on post.

The Lady Colonels took advantage of five walks and two Fort Campbell errors in their big first inning. Christian County also got big hits from Tyler Shemwell and Reni Shemwell in the inning. Reni Shemwell connected for two big triples during the Lady Colonels first at bat.

Christian County would add three more runs in the top of the 3rd inning. Hope Jones and Reni Shemwell each had doubles in the inning. The Lady Colonels also picked up two more walks from Fort Campbell pitching.

Reni Shemwell ended up 3-3, with 3 RBIs, two triples, and a double. Tyler Shemwell was 1-2, with 4 RBIs and three runs scored. Emmy Blane was 1-1 with three runs scored in the contest.

Christian County’s pitching was overpowering against the young Lady Falcons. Hannah Sumner and Kelsey O’Daniel struck out every batter they faced. Sumner had three strikeouts in one inning, while O’Daniel struck out six in two innings.
