With less than two weeks left in the regular season, the question in Second Region girls’ basketball is ‘Can anyone in the region beat Webster County?’ The Lady Trojans have been impressive and appear to be telling everyone ‘No.’

1) Webster County (24-3) – The Lady Trojans made quick work of Union County and Hopkinsville in the past seven days to move to 10-0 against the region. Only four of their 27 games have been decided by single digits with Henderson County the only region team to stay close the Lady Trojans.

2) Henderson County (12-4) – The school district’s ‘No Go-No Play’ policy has seen the Lady Colonels play the fewest games of any team in the region. Their only two losses since Dec. 4 have been to district rival Webster County. Three of their last six regular season games are against teams ranked in their region’s top three.

3) Christian County (14-9) – The Lady Colonels have lost close games to this year’s All-A Classic state champ (Owensboro Catholic) and last year’s All-A Classic state champ (Murray) in the last five days. They will get a good measuring stick of where they stand in the region next week with games against No. 1 Webster County and No. 2 Henderson County.

4) Madisonville (20-6) – The Lady Maroons will carry a seven-game winning streak into next week’s regular season finale against Apollo, a team that beat them in December. A win over the E-Gals would give them a nice signature win heading into the postseason.

5) Hopkinsville (14-13) – Things have not been the same for the Lady Tigers since Christmas break. They are just 3-7 once the calendar flipped to 2019 and have a scoring margin of -12 in those seven losses. They still have time to right the ship and make a postseason run similar to last year.

6) Caldwell County (11-13) – Caldwell is up and down but played No. 4 Madisonville to three points in the past week. Mirroring that effort could mean a strong postseason run

7) Hopkins County Central (10-13) – The Lady Storm’s only wins in the past month have come against Dawson Springs. However, there is no one with a better resume to leap frog them into the Super 7.
