In a matchup of two 5th District rivals, the Lyon County Lady Lyons rallied in the 4th quarter to knock off the Trigg County Lady Wildcats in the 1st Lady Warrior Shootout at Community Christian Academy. The Lady Lyons, who trailed going into the final quarter, outscored the Lady Wildcats by eight to pick up the 40-34 win in a defensive battle.
It was a defensive struggle from the opening tip. Trigg County got four first quarter points from Kinizah Grubbs as the the Lady Wildcats were able to inch out to a 10-9 lead after the opening quarter.
In the second quarter, it was the Trigg County defense taking control of the game, as the Lady Wildcats limited the Lady Lyons to two field goals and a free throw. Meanwhile, Trigg County got seven points from Rylee Bush in the second quarter and moved out to a 20-14 lead at the half.
Alison Murphy stepped up for the Lady Lyons in the 3rd quarter, especially on the boards. The Lady Lyons limited Trigg County to six points in the quarter as they trimmed the margin down to 2 points at 26-24.
In the 4th, Muprhy continued her second half surge, coming up with nine points, seven of them on free throws, as the Lady Lyons got to the lead, and then held off the Lady Wildcats to pick up the six point win.
Murphy paced the Lyon County effort with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Cathryn Brown added 7 points, while Calista Collins came up with 6 point and 7 rebounds.
For Trigg County, Rylee Bush was the only player to reach double figure with 10. Kinizah Grubbs had 7 points.
Lyon County improved to 5-6, while Trigg County dropped to 5-10.
