Kentucky freshman EJ Montgomery knows what Saturday’s game against North Carolina in Chicago could mean for the Wildcats.

“It’s a big opportunity for us to go out there and prove we’ve been working hard lately in these last few practices,” said Montgomery.

He’s not worried about trying to make UK fans or anyone else forget the 34-point loss the Cats had to open the season against Duke.

“Just trying to go out there and prove we’re getting better every day. Every time we step on the floor we’re trying to get better and just improve every day in practice,”

Montgomery said. “The team’s just going to go out there and fight, play defense, just do all the little things to just help the team win.”

Montgomery didn’t know much about North Carolina Thursday which is no surprise because coach John Calipari does not go over scouting reports early with his player.

“I just know they’re a good team, good school. This is going to be a dogfight,” Montgomery said.

He does think UK will like to play the fast pace that the Tar Heels prefer.

“I think we’re better like that too. We’re a transition team. We get a lot of transition buckets when we’re going up and down. We’re just having fun out there,” he said.
