A new basketball season is here upon us, and with it comes the first YSE Boys 2nd Region “Super 7.” It promises to be one of the best seasons in recent memory across the region, with one favorite going into the season, but several teams that have their eyes set on making it to Rupp Arena come the end of the season.
1. UHA (1-0) – The Blazers opened with an impressive win over Murray, in a game that was not as close as the final 18 point margin indicates. Hoopfest is next for the Blazers Friday, followed by a game with Doss Saturday at Muhlenberg County.
2. Madisonville (1-0) – The Maroons opened with a hard fought win on the road at Daviess County. Like UHA, Madisonville plays at the Hoopfest Friday evening and then at Muhlenberg County on Saturday.
3. Christian County (0-0) – The Colonels are still waiting to officially open their season. They will do so Saturday when they travel to the KY 811 Shootout at Daviess County to take on McCracken County. We will get a good early measuring stick of the Colonels in this one.
4. Hopkinsville (0-1) – A road trip to Paducah Tilghman is a tough way to start the season, and the Tigers had their troubles in a 15 point loss. Up next are contests with Kenwood and Northwest, ahead of a showdown next week with Christian County.
5. Henderson County (0-0) – The northern Colonels officially get their season started Friday night against Whitesville Trinity, before taking on North Hardin on Saturday. Mark down December 14, as Henderson will host Christian County in an early season test for both teams.
6. Hopkins Central (1-0) – The Storm went on the road to Calhoun for the season opener and had to fight to come away with a one point win against McLean County. Games against Webster and Muhlenberg County over the next few days should tell us more about this group.
7. Lyon County (1-0) – The Lyons looked nowhere near the team of last season in their opening win over Caldwell County. 7th grader Travis Perry and freshman Jackson Shoulders looked good in the opener, and Gabe Board was Gabe Board. Up next are games with Butler County and Elliot County.
