Marshall County’s 2018-19 boys’ basketball season begins next week, but it appears it will not begin for sophomore Zion Harmon. Joe Jackson of the West Kentucky Star.com reported Thursday that the KHSAA has upheld their original decision per Marshall County Schools Superintendent Trent Lovett.
Harmon, who transferred to Marshall County after spending last season at Adair County, was ruled ineligible by the KHSAA in August. The family appealed the ruling, but Jackson said the hearing officer recommended the decision be upheld. The report said it was indeed upheld this week by the KHSAA.
Varsity athletes are required to sit out one year after transferring, although there are exceptions to that rule. A change of residence is one of those exceptions.
The Harmons can still take legal action through the court system. A judge could rule Harmon eligible immediately, and then, the KHSAA could begin their appeal process.
Harmon is a 5-11 sophomore point guard with college offers from Auburn, St. Louis, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt among others.
Even without Harmon, the Marshals are expected to challenge for the First Region title.
