Trigg County heads to Elizabethtown for a first round Class 3A playoff football game for the second straight season. The Panthers beat the Wildcats 47-6 last year on their way to a third straight region title.
The Wildcats are regrouping after a 28-0 loss to Union County two weeks ago — their first shutout loss in nearly two seasons. A bye week has given Trigg County a chance to fine tune an offense that is averaging 28 points and 294 yards a game — an increase from 22 points and 246 yards last year.
Trigg County (5-5) has benefitted from a healthy Cam Jordan, who leads the Wildcats with 1,373 passing yards and 804 rushing yards. Jakobe Bridges, who has a team-high 18 touchdowns, was held to one catch and negative rushing yards against Union County.
They will face an Elizabethtown team that lost their first three games of the season, rebounded to win six straight and lost to Glasgow 35-34 last week. The numbers for the Panthers are lower than last year’s team but still respectable. They average 34 points and 348 yards of offense compared to 40 points and 306 yards last year. However, last year’s 12-2 Panther squad gave up 186 yards of offense compared to 346 this year.
Trigg County must find a way to effectively run the football against an E-town defense that gives up 241 yards a game.
The Wildcats will be looking for their first playoff win since 2014 with their last first round road win coming in 2006 at Fort Campbell.
Kickoff is 7:30 (ET) with coverage on 106.5 FM WKDZ starting at 6pm local time.
