After the first couple of days of the regular season, a couple of things are already clear in the 2nd Region. One, the Maroons are going to be pretty much what we thought they would be. Two, Christian County has the potential to be very good by the time we hit district tournaments. And, there are several teams that could work their way into contender’s roles over the weeks ahead.
– Madisonville – The Maroons pick up an impressive win over Bowling Green to open the season. Three big ones coming up, Marshall County, McCracken County, and Christian County, will tell us a lot about this team early in the season.
– Christian County – A double digit win over Henderson County was a nice way to open the season. Like Madisonville, they have three big ones ahead, Webster County, John Hardin, and Madisonville. Let’s see how this young team develops.
– Lyon County – The Lyons had to come from behind at Caldwell County, but note that they did just that, on the road, in a rivalry game. An interesting matchup with Murray, in the Marshall County Hoop Fest, is coming up this weekend.
– UHA – The Blazers fell behind in a big way at Murrray and then nearly battled back to pull of an epic comeback. Two big tests for UHA coming up this weekend with games against John Hardin and Owensboro. We will see how the Blazers respond to adversity to start the season..
– Union County – The Braves took a whipping at the hands of Owensboro in their start to the season. However, the Red Devils will do that to several teams this year. We will find out if that was an early season blip or more coming up, as the Braves have games with UHA and Lyon County on the horizon.
– Henderson County – The northern Colonels nearly rallied from a 17 point deficit to pull out a win at Christian County in the opener. It ended up getting away from them and ended up a double digit loss. Still, this will be a team you will not like facing as the season goes on.
– Webster County – The Trojans put a beatdown on Hopkins Central to open their season. We will find out a bit more about Webster County tonight as they take on Christian County on the road. A win there puts them on a different plane.
