Lyon County went 2-0 in scrimmage action at Crittenden County on Saturday, including a win over University Heights Academy.
The host Rockets and Christian Fellowship School also took part in the preseason event that was held in both Rocket Arena and the Crittenden County Middle School gym.
The highlight of the afternoon was the matchup between Lyon and UHA, which felt more like a late-season game than a preseason scrimmage.
The teams played two 20-minute halves with a running clock in the scrimmages.
Lyon took both halves again UHA, winning the first half 36-32 and the second half 34-29 to outscore the Blazers 70-61 overall.
Nick Whalin’s 22 points paced Lyon County. Travis Perry had 17 points, Jackson Shoulders 13 and Gunnar Bingham 11.
KJ Crump scored 26 points for University Heights while DJ Quarles had 17. Will Bryan added 10 points.
Earlier, Lyon knocked off Crittenden 67-45.
Whalin totaled 15 points in that game. Shoulders had 14 while Trey Hawkins and Kade Blackburn each had 11. Perry scored 10 points.
Crittenden, which still doesn’t have its football players out after the Rockets reached the third round of the playoffs before falling at Kentucky Country Day on Friday night, got 21 points from Erik O’Leary and 10 from Gabe Mott.
UHA picked up a win over Crittenden, taking that scrimmage 65-42.
Quarles had 15 points for the Blazers while Amani McGee had 14 and Bryan had 13.
O’Leary and Mott each had 11 points in that game for Crittenden while Tristan Davidson had 10.
Crittenden got a win over Christian Fellowship School, 74-68.
O’Leary led the Rockets in that game with 22 points and Mott had 18. Jayden Carlson added 14.
Lyon and UHA each played younger players against Christian Fellowship while basically resting their varsity players for each other.
