Hopkinsville junior Chase Atkins finished seventh Saturday at the Class 3A State Cross Country Meet at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. It was the first top 10 finish at the state meet for the junior.
Atkins covered the 3.1-mile course in a time of 16:11, which was nearly a minute faster than his state meet time from a year ago. Madison Central’s Conner O’Shea won the race in 15:50.
Freshman Chance Jones competed in his first state meet and finished 208th in a time of 18:38.
