Hopkins County Central will be sending four runners to the Class 2A State Cross Country Meet after their runs at the Region 1 Meet Saturday at Marshall County.
Christian Stringer finished 25th in the boys’ varsity race in a time of 20:45 to lead the Storm runners across the finish line. Brendan Harper came across the line in 32nd place in 21:31. Both runners advanced to state based on their finishes.
Also competing at the region meet were seventh grader Brody Duncan, who finished 36th, and Hunter DMoss, who finished in 41st place. The Storm did not field enough runners for a complete team.
For the ladies, Shelci Cabarrero-Hernandez and Abigail Burgett both qualified for the state meet following their region runs. Cabarrero-Hernandez finished 24th in a time of 27:20, while Burgett was 26th in 27:24. They helped Hopkins Central to a fifth place finish.
Leanna Carney was 32nd, followed by Jaclyn Egbert (33rd), and Siena Welch (34th).
The Class 2A State Meet will be run Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
