Lyon County’s trip to the Second Region Boys’ Soccer Tournament ended quicker than they wanted thanks to the 1-2 combo of Henderson County and Mother Nature.
Henderson was credited with an 8-0 win in Tuesday’s quarterfinal match that ended with 32 minutes left. The teams were sent off the field eight minutes into the second half due to a lightning delay. After waiting 45 minutes, Lyon County opted to not finish the final 32 minutes.
Lyon County Athletic Director Zach Thomas cited the lightning delay, the deficit, and not having a return trip to Henderson the next day as reasons for not finishing the game as scheduled.
Lucas Butler tallied the hat trick for Henderson County, and five other players found the net as the Colonels improved to 8-0-1 against region teams this season and 15-4-3 overall.
Lyon County’s season ends with a record of 2-16-3.
