After a 4-0 start to the football season, Trigg County enters their bye week on a three-game losing streak following a 32-0 loss at Crittenden County Friday.
Trigg’s inability to stop the run has been their downfall during their losing streak. The Rockets ran the football 65 times for 436 yards – the third straight week Trigg has allowed 300+ rushing yards. Crittenden ran 75 plays to Trigg County’s 49.
Using a hurry-up offense, the Rockets capitalized early as Caden McCalister capped the scoring drive with a 5-yard run. Crittenden converted the 2-point play for a quick 8-0 lead.
Trigg County had trouble running the football for the first time this year. The Rockets closed down the run lanes and limited the Wildcats to -30 yards on the ground in the first half and just four yards on 25 carries for the game.
The Wildcats didn’t fare much better through the air as Cam Jordan was 2-of-6 passing for eight yards before leaving the game at halftime with a shoulder injury. Beau Hendricks came on in relief to throw for 54 yards but was picked off three times. Trigg County finished with 66 yards of total offense.
Tabor, who finished the game with 236 yards on 25 carries, scored on runs of 34 and seven yards. Tyler Boone added 82 yards on eight carries. The Rocket defense also tackled Trigg twice in their own end zone for two safeties in the contest.
The Wildcats trailed 24-0 at halftime and couldn’t dent the scoreboard in the second half.
The 32-point loss is the second-highest margin of loss to the Rockets in the history of the series. The Wildcats lost to the Rockets 46-7 last year in Cadiz.
Crittenden County (4-2) opens district play Friday against Caverna.
Trigg County (4-3) gets a much-needed bye week to try and heal some injuries that have plagued the Wildcats all season. They will play at Webster County Oct. 18.
