Wildcats 4th at Regional, Grayson Thomas Qualifies for State

Trigg County junior Grayson Thomas is headed to the state golf tournament and the Wildcats placed fourth in the team standings at the boys’ 1st Region Golf Tournament at Calvert City Country Club on Tuesday.

Marshall County dominated the competition, claiming the top two individual spots and having another golfer tie for third. The Marshals easily rolled to the team title at 289.

McCracken County was second in the team standings at 319 while Paducah St. Mary just edged Trigg for third. The Vikings finished at 328 while the Wildcats were at 329.

Marshall junior Jay Nimmo claimed medalist honors with a 4-under-par 68. His teammate, senior Tyler Powell, was runner-up with a 1-under 71.

Three golfers tied for third. Marshall’s Camdyn McLeod, Crittenden County’s Sammy Greenwell and Calloway County’s Ty Gallimore all shot 74.

Three more individuals tied for sixth and will head to state. Trey Wall of Marshall and Paducah St. Mary teammates Rocco Zakutney and Peyton Purvis each finished at 76.

Also qualifying for state were Tyler Abernathy of Hickman County and Conner Kirkham of McCracken County, who both carded 77s and Trigg’s Thomas, who finished at 78.

The state tournament is slated for next week at Bowling Green Country Club.
