University Heights Academy appeared to be playing on fumes at times against Christian County Tuesday but held the Colonels without a shot in the second half on their way to a 5-2 win at the Stadium of Champions.

It’s the third straight match that UHA has held their opponent scoreless in the second 40 minutes.

Ethan Hale got the Blazers on the board less than two minutes in with a penalty kick. Christian County answered 10 minutes later when Benito Rubio scored in front to tie the match at 1-1.

Will Bryan took a nice feed from Connor Dill to bang home his 20th goal of the season and give the Blazers a 2-1 lead.

It was short-lived as Rubio bent in a shot from 25 yards on the left side just four minutes later to knot the match at 2-2.

UHA scored twice in the final 19 minutes to grab a 4-2 lead. Connor Dill cleaned up in front of the net to give the Blazers the lead, and Tanner Thomas fed Bryan with a superb pass that Bryan nailed for a 4-2 lead.

Thomas scored the only goal of the second half off a feed from Ethan Hale in the 56th minute.

UHA outshot the Colonels 19-5, including 10-0 in the second half. Josh Settle did have seven saves in goal for the Colonels. UHA’s Will Maxwell turned away four shots.

The Blazers improved to 6-3 after playing their third match in four days and fourth match in six days. They will host Logan County Monday.

Christian County (1-9-1) travels to Fort Campbell Tuesday in a contest that will likely determine the No. 3 seed in the district tournament.
