At least they are gonna get their travel expenses back. Whoever is responsible for assigning football referees in the Fort Knox area may want to look at their process after the Todd County Central Rebels made a wasted trip to Fort Knox Friday night.
The Todd County Central Rebels made the journey to Fort Knox, expecting to play a game against the Eagles in Week 2 of the 2019 football season. After making the bus ride, warming up, waiting, and waiting, the game was canceled.
The game was canceled, not for weather, not for an incident on the field, not for a security issue on post, but was canceled for what could not take place on the field.
There were no officials. That’s right, no officials. Not a shorthanded crew, but no crew showed up for the game between Fort Knox and Todd County Central.
Now nothing against volleyball and soccer, or basketball for that matter, but those games are played multiple nights a week, so if on a rare occasion, this kind of thing happened, you “might” could understand it.
But football plays one night a week. The schedule has been set for months for this season, and essentially next year, as most contracts for games are on a two year basis. Somebody “fumbled” the ball on this one, and it was not the Todd Central Rebels.
The Rebels did their part. They prepared all week for the game, looking to go 2-0 on the season. They loaded up Friday, and rode the bus to Fort Knox. They prepared ahead of the game, only to be sent home, because someone dropped the ball, so to say.
The Rebels did their part to play a football game Friday night. Good thing someone at least covered their gas for not getting to play.
