Lyon County’s first half defense was once again up to the challenge, until they faded in the second half Thursday. Marshall County scored five goals in the final 17 minutes to hand the Lyons a 10-0 setback at Lee S. Jones Park in the first meeting between the schools in 12 years.
Collin Riley scored a pair of goals in the first eight minutes to put the Marshals ahead 2-0, but they didn’t score again for 34 minutes.
Lyon goalie Cole Schroeder kept the Marshals off the board with several fantastic saves in the half. Schroeder had 18 saves in the first half and 33 for the game. The Marshals put 23 shots on goal and outshot the Lyons 37-1.
Despite the lopsided stats, the Marshals were not able to find the net despite controlling the midfield all contest.
Riley completed his hat trick with 33 minutes left in the game when he converted a penalty kick.
Kiefer Court and William Lynch both also scored in the first nine minutes for a 5-0 lead.
As Lyon County wore down in the second half, the Marshals ran fresh kids on the field.
The Marshals scored five goals in the game’s final 17 minutes, including the game-ender by Jericho Evans with 4:34 left.
Marshall County improved to 6-2 with the win. Lyon County dropped to 0-4-1 on the season and will return to action Saturday Russellville Panther Classic.
