Up 2-0 with just over twenty minutes to play on Monday night, the Todd County Central Rebels looked to be in control and on their way to a second-straight victory. However, a flurry of goals, including a contentious late PK awarded to Butler County, left the Rebels with a 3-3 tie. The result marked the first time since the 2014 season that the Rebels had won a game and not followed it with a loss.
Mikey Everett scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 13th minute and the Rebels held a 1-0 edge at the half.
With just over 23 minutes to play, Luis Herrera doubled the advantage with a goal off an assist from Jose Villanueva. Jose Sanchez converted a penalty kick to pull the Bears to within a goal, before tying the game with an impressive solo effort that ended with a tap-in.
Herrera and Villanueva linked up again to restore the lead with 13:40 to play, but with only seconds remaining the Rebels were called for a handball in the 18-yard box. Sanchez found the back of the net from the spot for the second time, completing his hat trick and denying the Rebels the win.
Todd County will be back on the field on Tuesday for a 13th-District meeting with visiting Logan County.
