The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers appear to be making some strides early in the 2019 volleyball season. While still losing to defending 2nd Region champion Henderson County Tuesday evening, the Lady Tigers rallied from two sets down, took a set and pushed the Lady Colonels to work hard for a four set win at Tiger Gym, 25-14, 25-11, 22-25, and 25-23.

Hopkinsville opened the match jumping out to an 8-5 lead. However, the Lady Colonels quickly ended that threat by scoring the next eight points to go up 13-8. Henderson would roll on to take the opening set by a score of 25-11.

The second set was essentially over from the beginning. The Lady Colonels continued their hot play from the second set by scoring the first eight points of the third set. Hopkinsville never threatened in the set from that point forward, as the Lady Colonels cruised on out to take the set 25-14.

The third set was a battle from the start, as neither team could get a big run going to take control. With Henderson County up 19-17 late in the set, Hopkinsville scored four points in a row to take a 21-19 lead. Henderson battled back to tie the set at 21-21, but the Lady Tigers finished out by scoring 4 of the final 5 points to take their first set.

The Lady Tigers continued their run early in the 4th set. With the match tied at 6-6, Hopkinsville scored the next five points to take an 11-6 lead and looked to be on their way to forcing a 5th and deciding set. With Hopkinsville up 20-16, Henderson battled to cut the lead down to 20-19. The rest of the set was tight down to the finish. With Hopkinsville leading 23-22, Henderson scored three straight points to claim the set 25-23, and the match 3-1.

The loss drops Hopkinsville to 2-4 on the season, while Henderson County improves to 4-4. The Lady Tigers return to action Thursday when they go on the road to take on Daviess County.
